Infrastructure management in times of crisis

event date

Unexpected circumstances and extraordinary situations often cause panic among people, and confusion among specialists working with equipment and infrastructure managers.

Infrastructure management in times of crisis

Analysts calculated that when power is cut off, 20-30% of standby generators simply do not start, and how to be in this situation? Frequent causes of crisis situations are weather conditions, because of which wires are cut off, electricity is lost. This problem is especially acute for life support facilities, such as hospitals and medical centers, because this can cost the patient’s life. But the problem is not only in electricity, we should not go far, we can recall the situation on the Ukrainian market on June 27, when the PetyaA virus attacked the largest Ukrainian companies, and security systems were not ready for such an attack.

In order to be ready for crisis situations, companies should pay time to several points.

First, regular monitoring and audit of equipment and timely maintenance will help to avoid many problems in a crisis situation. Also, it is worth considering the possible options for working in a freelance situation, for example, switching off the electricity. For vital infrastructure, it can be backup generators, stand-alone equipment, etc.

Secondly, data storage in the cloud will allow you to receive information from anywhere in the world, from any device, and not spend money on expensive computer equipment. Also an important advantage of cloud storage is the best protection. The computer can be stolen, it’s easier to crack, with the cloud it’s much more difficult.

Thirdly, cybersecurity. Figures show that even in developed countries, 75% of organizations do not have a cyber-attack response system, and only 29% of companies are taking steps to improve their protection systems. In addition, experts predict that by 2020 about 20% of companies will undergo cyber attacks. Ideally, cybersecurity systems in a company should evolve in parallel with automation systems, in order to achieve the greatest efficiency.

In general, to avoid panic and unpreparedness for crisis situations, commercial structures should have a well-developed plan of action in such conditions. In this case, the coordinated work of all employees will help to avoid even greater trouble.
