Fire safety in buildings
2019-09-03
Every day, 68 buildings are damaged or destroyed by fire in Ukraine. Such statistics speak primarily about non-compliance with fire safety standards. In this article we will talk about the rules and nuances that will help protect the building from uncontrolled fire.
The main purpose of the organization of fire safety is to eliminate or reduce the risk to the life and health of people in the building, as well as to minimize material damage in the event of a fire.
Fire safety regulations approved by the order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine dated December 30, 2014 No. 1417. In December 2017, the rules were amended. This document establishes the basic rules for fire safety in buildings, structures and adjacent territories, other real estate, as well as equipment. We advise you to familiarize yourself with the existing rules, and bring the fire safety system in the state specified by the document.
Let’s talk in more detail about the most important stages of creating and maintaining a fire safety system
Before developing fire safety measures, it is necessary to conduct an audit of the enterprise. Determine the characteristics and features of the enterprise (the size of buildings and premises, their purpose, area, height of ceilings, etc.). Designate the location of equipment that can catch fire. According to the results of such an audit, the company has all the data to determine the risks associated with a possible fire. It is also worth considering how far from the building there is the fire department, and how long the crew can get at the usual time and at rush hour.
When installing equipment and fire safety systems, it is best to contact a professional company that has all the appropriate permissions. Here we need an individual approach, taking into account the parameters of the building, the direction of the enterprise, the number of personnel. However, the general requirements for technical equipment are the same and include the installation of a fire alarm or warning system, manual or automatic fire extinguishing and smoke removal facilities. Also important is the installation of smoke detectors, placement of signs and pointers, evacuation plan on each floor.
An important element of fire safety is the development of fire safety regulations and instructions, documents on the operation of equipment, storage conditions for products, materials, and flammable elements. It also needs to develop a methodology for training safety personnel. Regularly conducting scheduled classes and training evacuations will consolidate theoretical knowledge and help preserve life and health in an emergency.
In conclusion, we note that compliance with fire safety rules is extremely important for the health and life of staff. Do not neglect them and in no case try to extinguish the fire yourself, the maximum that can be done is to help people in the building to evacuate away from danger, and if there is any ignition or smoke, immediately call the Ministry of Emergency Situations by calling 101!
